LAMBING LECTURE SET FOR APRIL 20:
WHY LOURDES MATTERS TO WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA CATHOLICS
Kerry Crawford, author of Lourdes Today: A Pilgrimage to Mary’s Grotto (Servant Books), will speak on “Why Lourdes Matters to Western Pennsylvania Catholics” on Sunday, April 20 at 2:30 p.m. The talk will be held at Holy Spirit Byzantine Church Hall, 4815 Fifth Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood (opposite Central Catholic High School).
One hundred fifty years ago in a small town in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl. Millions of pilgrims visit the shrine annually seeking spiritual and physical healing.
Crawford interviewed more than four dozen pilgrims from throughout the United States, Canada, and France. She will speak on the heart of today’s Lourdes pilgrims as well as those of years past including the famed Father James R. Cox, the diocesan priest who led unemployed workers on a march to Washington, D.C. during the Depression. This free talk is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 412-343-0860.
