 Annual Monsignor Andrew A. Lambing Lecture Set   

LAMBING LECTURE SET FOR APRIL 20:
WHY LOURDES MATTERS TO WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA CATHOLICS


Kerry Crawford, author of Lourdes Today: A Pilgrimage to Mary’s Grotto (Servant Books), will speak on “Why Lourdes Matters to Western Pennsylvania Catholics” on Sunday, April 20 at 2:30 p.m. The talk will be held at Holy Spirit Byzantine Church Hall, 4815 Fifth Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood (opposite Central Catholic High School).

One hundred fifty years ago in a small town in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl. Millions of pilgrims visit the shrine annually seeking spiritual and physical healing.

Crawford interviewed more than four dozen pilgrims from throughout the United States, Canada, and France. She will speak on the heart of today’s Lourdes pilgrims as well as those of years past including the famed Father James R. Cox, the diocesan priest who led unemployed workers on a march to Washington, D.C. during the Depression. This free talk is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.  Bob Lockwood to Deliver Monsignor Francis A. Glenn Lecture, October 14, 2007   

On Sunday, October 14, at 2:30pm, Bob Lockwood will be talking about “Catholic Urban Legends Come to Pittsburgh” at the annual Monsignor Francis A. Glenn lecture. Bob Lockwood is the Director for Communications for the Diocese of Pittsburgh and General Manager of the Pittsburgh Catholic. The talk will be held at the hall of Holy Spirit Byzantine Church, 4815 Fifth Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood (opposite Central Catholic High School). This free talk is open to the public and sponsored by The Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. Refreshments will be served.

 TALK SET FOR APRIL 22: HISTORY OF CHURCH MUSIC IN THE DIOCESE   

Fr. James Chepponis will speak on his book, From Organist to Pastoral Musician – History of Church Music in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh 1843-2006, which he coauthored with Dr. Fred Moleck and Sr. Cynthia Serjack, RSM on Sunday, April 22 at 2:30 p.m. The talk will be held at the hall of Holy Spirit Byzantine Church, 4815 Fifth Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood (opposite Central Catholic High School). Fr. Chepponis, is the director of the Office for Music Ministry and pastor of St. John Capistran, Upper St. Clair. He directs the Diocesan Choir and has published over 75 compositions. This free talk is open to the public and sponsored by The Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. Refreshments will be served.





 Malek Francis to Speak On October 8   

Malek Francis, Chairman of the American Lebanese Congress, will be speaking on Sunday, October 8. His topic will be Lebanese immigration to the U.S. and to Western Pennsylvania. The lecture will be held at Synod Hall, located behind St. Paul Cathedral, at 2:30 pm. Free to the public.





 April 2006 Lambing Lecture Set   

Greta Stokes Tucker will be the speaker at the April 2006 Lambing Lecture. The title of her talk is Black Catholics in Pittsburgh: Endurance and Survival. Ms. Tucker is the Director of the Department for Black Catholics, Ethnic & Cultural Communities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The lecture will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 2:30 pm. The lecture will be held at The Hall at Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, 4815 Fifth Avenue (2 blocks from St. Paul Cathedral) in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. Free to the public.





 October 2005 Glenn Lecture: The Lasting Positive Impact of Pittsburgh's Missionary Confraternity of Christian Doctrine   

Kenneth Ogorek, Director of the Office of Catechesis for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, will speak at 2:30pm on Sunday, October 16 at Synod Hall, located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

 Byzantine Catholic Liturgy in Memory of Fr. David J. Kriss   

A Byzantine Catholic Liturgy will be held by the Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania in memory of Fr. David J. Kriss. The liturgy will be held on at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, 4815 Fifth Avenue (2 blocks from St. Paul Cathedral) in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

Mike Aquilina, Author & Editor, will speak at 2:30pm on Sunday, April 17, 2005, at the Hall at Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, 4815 Fifth Avenue (2 blocks from St. Paul Cathedral) in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

The title of his speech is Pittsburgh Takes the Pledge: Fr. Theobald Mathew’s Temperance Crusade.
